Although at the beginning of Catching Fire Katniss and Peeta don't talk much, they later on agree to be friends and their relationship has a much better vibe. In The Hunger Games, their relationship was mostly based around the Games, since the Capitol viewers and all the Districts were watching them 24/7, so they acted like they were in love, even though Peeta actually loved Katniss and Katniss wasn't sure of her feelings. It seems like their relationship is much more advanced in this novel and continues to improve as they figure out more about each other.
