I have a feeling Gale would get violent and defensive with Peeta. He feels like he has claim over Katniss because he knew her before him, and they used to be best friends before what happened in the Games. Peeta is more passive and would attempt to talk things out, perhaps come to a compromise. But Gale isn't one that is to be reasoned with... he either wants all of it, or nobody is allowed to have anything at all.
